Assessment - Final Planning check 08th Nov SJA

www:

  • WOW! Gemma, what a fantastic blog to read through and enjoy! I have really enjoyed looking over your blog. It's very visual, engaging and shows loads of really thoughtful creativity and excellence in the use of media to explore your concept and communicate your ideas.
  • Every post is visual, and when I read your thoughts, there is a real sense that your clearly and genuinely engaged with the task - not just going through the motions. You seem to enjoy what you are working on- and this comes through in your posts. They are actually 'interesting' to read.
  • Excellent post on 'Costumes, etc' - I love your idea, and I really am looking forward to seeing the finished product from your group.
Well done!

some suggested ebi's:
  • - Song Details - What you currently have here is really just the song from Youtube with one paragraph about it. I wonder if you could make this post more interesting - maybe some key lines / lyrics... Or maybe you and your group talking to camera about what the song means to you...
  • - Storyboards - the Animatic is great. To really show anyone marking your blog that you have an excellent knowledge of technical terms, perhaps come back to your storyboards (the paper copies) and include more technical info - comments on lighting, camera movement... framing / composition, etc... etc. You cannot see any of this info in the animatic. I think you need to make sure your storyboards contain lots of detailed technical info and then scan them in - along with your animatic.

Overall, this is Excellent Gemma. You should feel really proud of what you have done and you have clearly invested loads of time on your work. I am really looking forward to seeing your concept come to life in your music video!

Location Permission Letters

We created and sent this permission letter to ensure we are allowed to use the space we need.  The other locations we will be filming at are public areas such as parks and therefore do not need permission to film there.

In response to the above email we went to see him and he confirmed that we could use PDH the Wednesday of that week.

Costumes, Make-up & Props

Costumes and make-up:
Throughout our music video we want to have 3 main costumes.
The first costume (seen above) is what our artist may be wearing during the first shot of our music video. The first shot we wanted was the close up on the Wellington boots and therefore wanted a bright colour which would stand out. We chose pink for this to link in with our girly feel to our music video. The rest of this costume is quite casual and therefore we want our artist hair and make-up here to be fairly casual as well.

Above is the second costume our artist will be wearing. This costume will be worn during the paint scenes. We chose plain colours to make sure the paint easily seen. Although these clothes are plain in colour I still wanted the costume to represent the brand image and that is why I have chosen a frilly dress. To link with the costume here we are going for a natural hairstyle as shown above that will not overpower our artist but will hopefully make her seem innocent and calm.

The last costume in our music video will contrast with the previous ones by being glamorous. I think this costume will link in with the glitter scenes nicely and with the correct lighting will make a nice effect. Our artist's make-up here will link with the costume by being more exaggerated and noticeable. On top of this the hairstyle in these scenes will also be more extreme linking with different parts of the song.

Make-up ideas

Props:

As no one in our group had the bike we wanted to use we sent emails around our school asking if anyone had a suitable bike we could use.

We followed up this response and discovered he had the perfect bike and that we could use it.

Another prop we want to use is a drum. This drum will be covered in glitter and when Jade hits it the glitter should fly up in the air and create a good effect. Like shown in the picture to the right we could experiment with the lighting of our location to create an even better effect that looks very good. Another prop we want to use is powder paint. Like the glitter we hope this creates a good effect in our music video.

Equipment includes: a tripod, video camera, still camera, lighting, and white sheets.

    Location shots

There are two main locations that we are going to use for our music video. To begin with we want to show are artist sitting on a brick wall/bench, jumping of it then riding a bike while lip syncing. To the right is an example of the type of pathway were we want to film the bike scenes. We want the green of the trees to contrast with the colours she is wearing. Another pathway we could use is Nonsuch Park. This will also give us the effect of the trees we want. I believe a forest type location will add a good atmosphere and will be effective in our music video.

Another location we want to use is an empty room. This will be used for the scenes were we throw paint and use glitter. We want to do this in an empty room to not take the attention of what the artist is doing. An empty room we have chosen is PDH at school. This is a good room to use as there is lighting installed which we can easily use to make our music video look more professional.

Here is a video Emma Holt created showing the different location choices:

    Advert designs

Above is an advert design I created using Photoshop. I decided to use a close up of our artist face however she is looking away and down from the camera which creates a sense that she is hiding something and is passionate about her music which are conventions of our chosen genre. To show the artist's name and name of the song/CD I used the font called 'Blake'. 'Blake' is our chosen font for all our promotional products which links them all together. On the bottom of the advert is the relevant information including the record companies logo, release date and website.
WWW: I believe for a first draft it is successful as an advert. It shows all the needed information and a portrays and clear image.
EBI: I think I could improve it by using more technical skills on Photoshop to make it look more professional. I also think the publicity photo could be improved through planning and linking it to other aspects of the advert like the track name.

    Storyboard

Storyboard drawn and edited by Jade Emans.

Parts of the storyboard has changed since the initial ideas. This is because some of the ideas we had to begin with would have been impossible with the budget and time scale we are working with and therefore we had to compromise elements of it.  It also changed as we done more research and gathered more ideas on what makes a good music video and so we improved a lot of our initial ideas. We created this storyboard to give us a basis of what to do when we begin to film it. The storyboard also helps us understand which bits we should film in what order and to ensure we do not forget anything on the day of filming. We put the images of the storyboard in a video with out song in the background to make sure that it fits and flows with the song correctly.

    Photo Shoot Plan

For the photo shoot we have decided to do it on the same time we film the music video. We chose to do this to ensure that the publicity photos we take link with the music video and by doing them at the same time we will. We are hoping to take photos of Jade during the scenes of the powder paint. This will create a nice effect and link with the colour scheme we are using which will link all our promotional products together. We want to take a close up of our artist with the paint on her face. This close up shot will be conventional to our genre however it is individual to our artist due to the paint.
This plan will help us to ensure we have all the correct equipment and to make sure we do not forget anything.

    Shooting Schedule

     CREATED BY EMMA HOLT

We created this shooting schedule to help us plan out what order we are going to shoot each scene when filming. It will help us no the costumes, props and equipment before hand so we can ensure we have it all and  so we can set it up before hand. This will also help us on the day of filming as we will stick to the schedule and to make sure we film everything we need to.

    Track Permisson Letter

This is the track permission letter that I wrote to Polydor Records, asking them for their permission to use Your Biggest Mistake in our music video. We wrote this to them to ensure we can use it and so record company know what we are going to be doing with it.
